Randy’s Calling
I served as an Air-conditioning mechanic for the
Architect of the Capital. On a very cold morning
in 1980, I passed a homeless woman on my way into
work. Her name was Susan, and I gave her the wonderful
lunch Marie had prepared for my thirtieth birthday.
Later at work, as I entered a mechanical room
in the basement of the Library of Congress, I
was overcome by the Holy presence of God. I wept
uncontrollably and from deep within a prophetic
song burst forth. These are the words I heard:
“I heard the voice of the Lord this day,
and He spoke so clearly to me.
If you love me son won't you do my will, and Feed
My Lambs this day. For they are
body and soul and spirit and each need is specialized.
So if you love me son, won't you do my will and
feed my lambs this day. Now their bodies need
food and clothing, and their minds need the peace
of your Lord, but their spirits, oh their tender
spirits, need the words of life, which you hold.
Now I'm with the Father in heaven, but the work's
on the earth with you son. So if you love me son,
there's so much work that must be done. Won't
you feed my lambs this day"?
Marie’s Calling:
I
was walking alone in the woods one day while out
on a family camping trip. As I walked along the
trail which was posted with “beware of bears”
signs, I felt a stirring in my spirit and a calling
to forsake the trail. My heart beat faster as
I walked deeper into the woods. Suddenly, I felt
impressed to stop at a certain bush. No, it was
not burning. However, what I heard has burned
in my heart since then.
“Marie, do you love me?”
“Yes, Lord I love you,” I responded
without hesitation. Twice I heard the same words
and I repeated my response. By the third time
I was weeping. I remembered the times I had strayed
away from the Lord. Yet I knew my loving Jesus
was not condemning me because in His gentle voice
I heard, “Marie,
if you love Me, Feed My Lambs.”
